When fully charged, this energy enhances his physical abilities to the peak of human potential, improving his strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, and endurance. The stored energy gradually depletes with use, usually lasting only a few minutes before his abilities return to normal, and active use makes him glow. His reserves currently require roughly a day to fully recharge. With further training and control, Lucas will be able to store greater amounts of energy and eventually push his physical abilities beyond human limits. Photokinetic Blasts (X-1) Lucas can release stored energy as concentrated photon bursts. These blasts can be shaped and altered in color, intensity, and appearance, allowing him to create effects ranging from powerful impacts to flashes that temporarily blind opponents or bursts of light resembling fireworks. While extremely fast, the blasts have a limited effective range of only a dozen feet before dispersing and can rapidly drain his stored energy. Photokinetic Constructs (X-1) Lucas can manipulate stored light energy into temporary visual or solid-light constructs. These creations can range from simple illusions and images to more complex functional objects such as tools, weapons, or non-living forms. The complexity and stability of these constructs are heavily dependent on Lucas's creativity, concentration, and experience. | Origin Story | Lucas Mercer grew up in a comfortable home in Los Angeles with supportive parents and a close relationship with his younger siblings. He was the kind of kid everyone expected to succeed. He was the starting quarterback, popular at school, all in on the Boy Scouts, well-liked by his classmates, and the dependable older brother who always looked out for his family. Lucas was never the strongest student academically, but he was hardworking when it mattered and had a natural ability to connect with people. His future seemed almost planned out for him. College football, acting, public service, or whatever path he chose, everyone believed Lucas was going to do something great. The problem was that Lucas never really stopped to ask what he wanted. He spent his life being the good son, the good brother, the good student, the football star, and the person everyone expected him to be. He dated a cheerleader, played the role people saw him in, and rarely questioned whether the life he was building was actually the one he wanted. Lucas was happy, but he had always been more focused on meeting expectations than understanding himself. That changed during his junior year championship footballgame. In the middle of the biggest moment of his high school career, Lucas's mutant abilities activated for the first time. A burst of uncontrolled light erupted from him, bringing the game to a halt and leaving everyone around him shocked and afraid, and temporarily blinding some of the other players. Lucas was just as terrified as everyone else. In a single moment, the image he had spent years building was gone, replaced by something nobody understood. The year that followed forced Lucas to confront everything he had avoided. The friends who once surrounded him became distant, classmates treated him differently, his girlfriend dumped him, and even his parents struggled with the reality of having a mutant son. The person who had always been the center of attention suddenly found himself isolated. As the pressure built, so did his difficulty controlling his abilities, making him feel even further removed from the life he once knew. When a representative from the Xavier Institute approached him with the opportunity to continue his education while learning to control his powers, Lucas accepted. Leaving Los Angeles was difficult, but it also offered something he had never really had before: a chance to start over. Away from the expectations of his family, teammates, and classmates, Lucas could finally figure out who he was when he was not trying to be everything everyone else needed him to be. Lucas still carries the weight of the life he left behind and the uncertainty of whether he can ever return to it. He wants to prove that the person everyone cared about was still there, but he also has to learn whether that person was ever truly him in the first place. |
