Positions, Ranks, and Roles

Simply put: there are no official positions, ranks, or roles aside from Team Leaders and Teammates. Read below for details.

Positions:

Since the sim focuses primarily on the X-Men, player characters will be members of that team ("Teammates"). Occasionally opportunities will open up for players to roleplay supporting NPC characters as needed for the plot.

Ranks:

In lieu of ranks, the only distinction a character will have is their X-number listed in their bio as Mutant Mastery. Mutant characters without formal training will be restricted to a proficiency rating of 3 or lower. Equivalent mutant training with other organizations (e.g., Alpha Flight, Acolytes, Morlocks) may stand in for training at the Xavier's School For Gifted Youngsters.

Starting characters are around 1-3 on the Mutant Mastery scale, giving them room to grow and develop into more advanced characters.

Characters may start at a student level and eventually age up to the point of graduating from their general education. When that happens, a character shifts from being a 'student' to a 'resident' of Xavier's. The only real distinction between a student and a resident is their age and what interests and hobbies are available to them in downtime role-playing scenarios. Some people enjoy the coming of age narrative, while others could do without. The distinction allows for players to create a character that interests them. Please note - Romantic relationships between 'students' and any other age group of individuals at Xavier's is strictly prohibited.

Should the roster become exceptionally large or take on a surplus of characters with similar roles or abilities, then separate teams may form (e.g., Gold Team and Blue Team each with respective leaders).

Roles:

These are unofficial considerations for character development and do not reflect any character's standing or performance whatsoever. When creating a character, we ask you to consider the role they play on the team. There is no fixed list or number of roles, as they merely reflect the character’s standard role while on mission. Examples could include Cyclops as a Blaster, Colossus as a Heavyhitter, Wolverine as a Brawler, and Shadowcat as an Infiltrator. Characters are not restricted by their role, and in fact may overlap with multiple different roles. This information does not need to be included in the character profile and is for developmental reference only.
